Welcome to Rugs by Carol offering rug hooking patterns that are unique, colorful and creative……..some with a whimsical, Floridian flair!
After many years of doing assorted needlework, a close friend introduced me to rug hooking. That was the summer of ’84 and I have been hooking ever since. I joined a local Pennsylvania guild whose members were extremely generous with their knowledge. Over the years I attended many rug workshops and continue to do so today. From the very beginning I designed my own rugs and rugs for others.
My husband and I relocated to southwest Florida in 1995. This change in locale ignited my creativitiy and I began creating new rug designs in earnest. Surrounded by tropical flora and bright, sunny days, it seemed natural to have my designs reflect these surroundings. Having an interest in geometric designs led me to antique tiles. I began designing tile rugs a couple years ago and loved the results! I recently have been experimenting with various fibers and techniques that lend themselves well to pillows and wall art.
I find every aspect of hooking to be a fulfilling experience and especially enjoy hand dyeing wool and the surprising results that can be accomplished with a little dye and a yard of wool.
Through hooking I have met some wonderful people and have had the pleasure of working with them. My daughter and I were invited by Linda Rae Coughlin to be a part of the “Art of Playing Cards” project. Our card is the four of spades. My “Sturgeon General” rug was featured in the book Geometric Hooked Rugs by Gail Dufresne.
I hope you enjoy my designs and wool. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.
